Re: did my aureosulcata survive the winter???

and yes i did get alot of rhizome. I guess bamboo is popular in central america where my employees are from because at the customers house we took the plants from they kept digging out rhizomes and saying "mucho beuno!" they love bamboo as much as we do.

Re: did my aureosulcata survive the winter???

yes these were the plants. And honestly there is no difference between the ones I used the wilt pruf on versus the ones I didnt. And no difference in the ones I used the mycorrizhae on. But, when I got to my shop this morning, I went out there to take some pictures to send you and just for kicks pul...

did my aureosulcata survive the winter???

I planted around 100 auresulcata plants last fall that I dug up from a customers property. They ranged in size from 3-4' to 20'. NJ had such a harsh winter and the area they are planted regularly received high wind gusts. Even with all my staking I had to reset some of the larger plants as they woul...

Re: horticultural oil, wilt pruf- couldnt hurt or dont bother?

it seems the pics loaded opposite but im sure you can figure it out. I know in the second pic it looks like they are planted up against the fence, but theres about 5' of space in there. Thats my tightest area that I will have to keep under control. they have to be that close to the fence because we ...

Re: horticultural oil, wilt pruf- couldnt hurt or dont bother?

Steve, thanks for those pics- they look great! as far as the antidesicant goes, I have alot in inventory at my shop (the groves are at my yard/shop/office of my landscape design company). True, I dont want to waste alot of material if I dont have to, and the Wilt Pruf is much more expensive than the...

Re: horticultural oil, wilt pruf- couldnt hurt or dont bother?

that is an amazing idea. In fact, I already started an experiment- I added PHC mychorizae organic root fertilizer to half the grove. So now I can split it even further with the wilt pruf and hort oil. I am going to take pics soon to show you all. Since this is my first bamboo experience, when can I ...

horticultural oil, wilt pruf- couldnt hurt or dont bother?

Well I have my second grove of what I believe to be aurosulcata planted from my freebies from one of my customers. We wound up getting about 40 plants from that removal! so now I have a full 70' row to the left of my entrance to my shop and a good 30' row to the right. Next year its going to be like...

Re: Learning the basics. Good book? How did you learn?

thank you for all the helpful advice. My crews have already started pointing out other areas that I should plant bamboo at my shop. It seems that South America has alot of it and they are almost more excited than me! I will get a couple of these books just to have but I think you are right that expe...

Re: Learning the basics. Good book? How did you learn?

I pretty much learn by growing them and by the time the 10th one has died, I have a pretty good handle on what grows in this climate. :? ahh the ole trial and error method. so if there really isnt a good book out there, then how does everyone on here know so many terms and can identify so much- i g...

Re: If only I had been patient...

You mention other varieties- why those imparticular? Parvifolia is pretty new in this country (scarce, expensive) but reportedly has potential to be quite big in colder areas -- so it's in high demand right now. The glauca 'Yunzhu' I just picked at random as another example of a not-too-common spec...

Re: If only I had been patient...

actually to be honest i dont even know if it is aureosulcata. I dont know that much about bamboo yet to pretend I can identify. It looks similar to the aureosulcata and Im sure it is def phyllostachys, but not positive it is aureosulcata. I posted another thread about basic bamboo identification boo...

Re: If only I had been patient...

well i have about an acre of land to plant in. This is at my shop where I run my landscape company out of and it borders commercial as well as residential properties on all four sides. The driveway is really long with a neighbors house in the front. My property is really "landlocked" by ot...

Learning the basics. Good book? How did you learn?

Being that I am now addicted like many of the other people on here, I spend hours searching these forums and realized how little I know. I want to learn about bamboo from the ground up, but am not sure of any good sources. Sure looking around on here gives me some information but is there a book or ...

If only I had been patient...

I started my venture with bamboo about a month ago and it has consumed me. My original plan was to screen out a 70' section at my shop, so I purchased a large quantity of aureosulcata. Since that purchase it seems bamboo is just falling in my lap! One of my customers asked me to remove some japonica...
