Re: Z-5B Fort Collins winter coverup
Hi All, I have an update. Well, when I plugged my bamboo fan in after the big cover up this fall, it didn’t turn on. I spun the temperature control dial of my thermostat all the way up to 90 and it did turn on……which it shouldn’t. Since I started using it maybe 10 years ago, it’s been set up for coo...

Re: Phyllostachys recommendation and cool summer experiences
Alec, Thank you for the update, and the beautiful climate charts! Did you do those completely manually, or use some kind of application, or website? Our climate here in Fort Collins is hotter than Oslo in the summer, and colder in the winter, and much dryer year round. So, I have to cover my bamboo ...

Re: Drought effect on cold hardiness
With the change in the political climate, I'm once again boycotting the news. So, I have time to catch up on the forum. It's been a while. Poknei - Keep in mind another potential hazard of covering your bamboo is the greenhouse effect. Here in Fort Collins, many years ago, I realized I not only need...

Re: Z-5B Fort Collins winter coverup
Hi Alan Yes, some years I've had 2 feet of heavy wet snow on the tarps on top of the bamboo. But the whole thing is rounded, and it tends to wiggle around a bit when the wind kicks up, so the snow usually slips off within a day or two. So, no, there's no insulative effect of the snow at the times I ...

Re: Z-5B Fort Collins winter coverup
I bragged about it earlier, so I figured I'd better back that up with evidence. While I was up on top of the bamboo disassembling the equipment (before I loosen all the straps) I asked my son to snap a couple pictures of me standing up there. The straps are so strong and they're holding the bamboo s...

Re: Z-5B Fort Collins winter coverup
Here's a couple more technical pictures IMG_2507.jpg Pic 2507 Here in its original position, we see the silvery duct which carries the hot air out from under the plastic. You see some of my heavy duty straps, and one of my new ratcheting tighteners. Just past the silver duct you see a clear plastic ...

Re: Z-5B Fort Collins winter coverup
Okay. With the weather getting warmer, I decided to go ahead and remove my covers on the bamboo. Since I didn't get pictures of some of the equipment details when I was covering up, I decided to try to grab a few pictures of those things as I uncovered the bamboo, and before I put things away till n...

Z-5B Fort Collins winter coverup
It's a snow day here today (the Bombcyclone blizard) so I'm home for the day, and I have some time to write. Every year during the long Thanksgiving weekend, I cover my bamboo here in central Fort Collins (Colorado). We're zone 5B here. If I don't cover the bamboo for the coldest months then most or...

Cute little guy but might be a problem
Hi All, This morning while sipping a cup of coffee and looking over my bamboo, I noticed this cute little guy nestled into the Golden Crookstem bamboo. http://i893.photobucket.com/albums/ac132/barlitone/IMG_0377.jpg He let me get up quite close, and at this point my i-phone clearly had his full atte...

Re: WINTER 2015/2016
Hi, this is Bruce in Fort Collins. I've recently been blessed with some extra free time (laid off), so after all these years of following all your posts, I've finally had a moment to register, and post. My Bamboo are all put away for the winter as seen below. I have Decora, Nuda, Crooked yellow groo...
