Re: Not AGAIN! Phyllostacys Nigra flowering again.
It’s Springtime down under. Update on my 4 pots of Phyllostacys Nigra. Good news is they’re all still alive! Bad news is for the third year in a row now I see some new shoots with flowers on them. I’ve noticed the seed heads from last season look fuller than the first crop so I’m wondering if they m...

Re: Is everyone’s Phyllostachys Nigra Flowering?
In the past when I’ve had other species of Phyllostachys flower the new shoots come up start to leaf out and then start to flower. Don’t know if yours will as well, but that’s what mine did. Those weren’t Nigra but you know maybe the same? Yes, some of the new shoots are also flowering but others d...

Re: Is everyone’s Phyllostachys Nigra Flowering?
I started this post in 2019, just after I’d bought some black bamboo that I’d been wanting to get for years, only to discover a nearby grove of it was in flower. Since then in most places around the world it’s also flowered. My own was slow to flower. 5 years after I saw the first one flowering, min...

Hey Ryan, I’m wondering if your bamboo survived the flowering event?

Re: Not AGAIN! Phyllostacys Nigra flowering again.
Just an update on this slow slow process of flowering bamboo. I’ve never had bamboo before so this is a learning experience for me. My bamboo is still not finished dropping its seeds. One small pot seems to have died but I’ve still got 4 large pots with growing bamboo in them. There’s still many tho...

Re: Not AGAIN! Phyllostacys Nigra flowering again.
It’s exactly a year today that I started this post. Flowering bamboo is a very slow process. My bamboo plants are still maturing their seeds. Most of the leaves have dropped but the plants seem to be alive. One is definitely still alive because it’s actually popped up a few small shoots and I don’t ...

Re: Not AGAIN! Phyllostacys Nigra flowering again.
How do I know when the seeds are ready to be harvested? They’re still slightly green. Can I pick and plant them now ir must they bee completely dry and the plant dead?

Re: Not AGAIN! Phyllostacys Nigra flowering again.
For those of you who’ve had flowering bamboo, have any new seedlings appeared from where the old stand grew?

Re: Not AGAIN! Phyllostacys Nigra flowering again.
I hope mine survives but I fear it won’t. I’d wanted black bamboo for years, decades actually but it was such an expensive plant and I don’t have much luck with pot plants. I eventually bought a spindly little pot of it in 2019 and then noticed some growing in a garden in my town that was flowering....

Re: Not AGAIN! Phyllostacys Nigra flowering again.
I read that it rarely has viable seeds. If that’s true then how come it doesn’t go extinct after flowering?

Not AGAIN! Phyllostacys Nigra flowering again.
My first post here in 2019 was about this bamboo flowering. At the time it was someone else’s bamboo growing by the roadside. It eventually died off. I had only just bought a small plant from the Facebook marketplace and thankfully mine didn’t flower, but now 5 years later it looks like it has. I’ve...

Re: Identity please? Not much to go on
Thanks for having a look at it. There’s only dead stumps left from the full grown canes. I’ll see if I can take some photos of them though. I’ve planted the 2 salvaged shoots in large pots, I’m thinking positive, that they will need them if they survive and recover. I’ve got a bit of land here and I...

Identity please? Not much to go on
I’m in Australia, down south, it’s not tropical here. There was a beautiful large stand of tall green bamboo growing at the back of a restaurant. I used to love looking at it. A couple of months ago the new owners had it buudozed. Today I went to see if anything could be salvaged and I managed to ge...
