RE: Alphonse Karr AKA Buddha Belly
The cooler weather is for us. I will look for a thread on mealy bug but then again, I am not sure I care because we have to take all of the plants back to the nursery in large garbage bags. I think they will just toss them which is a shame because they are so beautiful and full. In the photos you ca...

Alphonse Karr AKA Buddha Belly
Well, here it is 2 1/2 months later and we still have the same bamboo . The nursery said we could return it after the cooler weather arrived. They have never answered my email about getting a real AK bamboo. The bamboo is looking really pretty and I hate to dig it up. It is actually going crazy. On ...

RE: Bamboo in north TX
Well it has been a while but this is the rest of the saga on the Buddha Belly bamboo. I wrote the nursery manager a letter and received no reply. Today I emailed the him and he responded that I could return the ten Buddha Belly bamboo, when it is cooler, and get a refund. He says he talked to his su...

RE: More Bamboo for Texas
I live near Colleyville, in Lewisville. I would be interested if he finds any AK bamboo. It is very illusive! It seems like the best thing to do is order it on-line from bamboo specialist.

RE: Bamboo in north TX
Bummer. It is really irritating that the growers (or whatever they are called) who furnish two separate nurseries with bamboo don't know what they heck they are talking about. I guess they just think bamboo is bamboo and who will ever know? No wonder bamboo has such a bad rap. Or maybe they just hav...

The straight one I think is the AK and I have two of that type. The one that is the lumpy one and unfortunately I have ten of that type.

In this case Sandy is a woman. Reminds me of Flipper where Sandy was the teenage boy. I just thought it would be good to be able to tell the nursery that they sold me ? for AK and what can we do about it. Has anyone else had this happen? Actually, I think it was the grower who mislabeled the plant b...

RE: Bamboo in north TX
In the light of day it is very apparent that the ten bamboo are all the same and probably the Buddha Belly bamboo unless anyone has any other ideas. I will call the nursery and talk to them about the problem. My biggest irritations are that they are all planted and the mulch is in and also the BB is...

RE: Bamboo in north TX
Well, I was pretty excited when they said they had 10 AK so we got them all even though a couple of them looked sort of pitiful. I will try to get a better photo in the light but ten of our twelve are the photo with the lumpy, bumpy culms.

RE: Bamboo in north TX
I typed clums instead of culms, but I am sure you all know what I meant. I hope we can identify these guys cause they have only been in the ground for about 2 weeks or so.

RE: Bamboo in north TX
These are the photos we just took in the dark, tripping over sprinklers, etc. Being a novice I was thinking the leaves would tell the story but in these photos it is obvious that the ten bamboo are VERY different from the two bamboo and the two bamboo looks like it is probably AK. The first photo is...

What I am afraid of is that I have bought something really awful, like golden bamboo, and it will take over not only my yard but my neighbors. It is planted near the fence between our two yards. I will get those photos in the morning.

RE: Bamboo in north TX
I am not sure if I am posting this in the correct thread but... I told you all we bought ten AK bamboo at one nursery and two at another. The thing is they don't look a lot alike. The ten are very green, shortish and full and the 2 are tall, lanky and a little more yellow. I realize that the differe...

RE: Rain, Rain GO AWAY!!!
We also had the constant rain for about a month up here near Dallas. Our back yard was in the "between" stage and the dirt actually soured. My 3 year old grandson was digging in the dirt one day and told me it smelled like... well, it smelled REALLY bad! We have had about 2 1/2 weeks of dr...

RE: Bamboo in north TX
The bamboo is planted about 12"-18" from the fence. Everything is brand new, just planted in the past 2 weeks. We went ahead and got what will probably turn out to be too many bamboo but we are anxious for it to create a screen. There is one Pindo Palm in the corner, which may or may not m...
