A Simple Bamboo Project with Improvements

Post by David »

Here's a simple project for a winter weekend.

The improvement.

Close up of glass vase stop.

1. Secure cheap cylinder vase.
2. Cut cured section of bamboo.
3. Cut shape on bandsaw.
4. Knock out septums.
5. Rasp/ sand with 200, 400, 600 grit. Always sand along length of culm, never across.
6. Finish with 3 light coats of spray polyurethane.
7. Glue vase stops with wood glue, and hot glue to hold while glue sets.
8. Use glass vase to align stops before hot glue.
8a. Add felt pads to base.
9. Vase should be just below top of bamboo and out of site.
10. Enjoy with fresh flowers. Do not use plastic flowers! It just wouldn't be right.
