Fires and BBQ's
I read (i cant remember which book) that in a forest fire bamboo will start to flower, im not sure what triggers this if its the soil or the air but, this might be a stupid question but could a BBQ smoker or a fire pit that is fairly near by cause problems or trigger flowering? Does anyone have experience with this?

If you use the search function here you should be able to find a post by Roy Rogers where he describes smoking a bamboo into flower.

i dont think smoke from the occasional campfire or cookout will effect your bamboo.
the spot where we camp and burn brush is only about 25' from my multiplex. no flowers.
