Phyllostachys Identification

Post by Lot 112 »

My neighbor(who has since relocated) planted bamboo to create a privacy screen along a cinder block wall.

The bamboo has become established & began sending shoots underneath the foundation of the retaining wall into the adjacent yard.

I was wondering if anybody can identify the variety. The canes are a vibrant green,@ this point they're approximately 20ft. tall.

Those shortened internodes in the second picture, and the long sheath leaves give it away as phyllostachys aurea.

I don't see any shortened internodes. There is no way to ID this plant without shoot pics, and we will have to wait until next spring for that.

In my initial post I did not make it clear that the photos were of the new shoots in the adjacent yard.

Here are some additional photos:

As I previously stated the shoots are in excess of 20ft tall however they have not began to "leaf out" & some of the sheaths are still attached to the culms.
