Dunno about that. There is always a lot of fog on the Oregon coast. It creeps in as far as my place on the west slopes of the Cascades. Fog or no fog, it is a LOT warmer on the OR coast than NS, or here. You can grow pretty much any kind of bamboo there. Moso love growing on the OR (and CA) coast.
Happy trails...

I neglected to explain my experience around those purchases. The 'Green Screen' had culms that were a faded yellow/old grayish sheaths, healthy looking but no recent growth. The Scabrida was vibrant with dark blue and olive green culms/orange to tan sheaths. The leaves were similar so I thought they would complement each other. After shooting began the distinctions blurred. The so-called "Green Screen" was in deep shade at the nursery and the Scabridas had just been brought in from the growers house after I inquired a couple weeks earlier after I had seen his display plant.
Anyway, last summer I took a couple shots of similar portions of the two plants.

if you are not seeing similar color splashs occasionally from your Scabrida, you are deprived :P

I sent the pix off to Steffen and he writes back:
"For me this looks definitely not like robusta. The culms resemble Scabrida, only the shoots do not look typical. If I need to decide, I would say it's Scabrida."

Doubt anyone would bet the house on it being Scabrida for sure but the most likely choice at present.

Oddly enough my most active shooter is a rather tropical Bambusa Dolichomerithalla Silverstripe, with 7 new shoots emerging.

I wasn't expecting a tropical clumper to shoot so early in the year. The identical one next to it isn't doing anything though.

Prominens - This shoot was left over from fall, but it started growing again, the top inch is new growth.

My Rufa snuck up on me, looks like it started shooting when I wasn't looking.

B'Fargesii is going wild here. It was a 10ft wide patch last year...probably closer to 20-25ft wide now with all the new shoots that are popping up everywhere.
