Yushania maculata
I know a few of you lucky ones have this and would be gracious if you would share details of this plant with the rest of us.

Conebearer, I do not have one and will likely keep it that way. Yushania is on my list with Chusquea, as a genus to avoid. I know that Mike Turner and others in warmer climes than me are growing these species but I give up. None of my Chusquea have ever made it through the summer and the Yushania seem to barely hang on. I've killed 1 Pitt White, am currently torturing another one along with a Yush Chungii. I've already killed 2 Chus Gigantea and 2 Chus Nigricans. They do NOT like it here. I am seriously considering adding several species of Fargesia to this list.
I'm surprised that our climate is so unhospitable to them, so I'll take it personally
I thought our high summer humidity would help and we generally have around a 15 -20 degree temp diff between day & night with heavy dew but none the less, the 'hardy' montane species I have do not like my bamboo growing conditions. We have not been below zero yet and all of my 10 or so species of Fargesias but Rufa are totally leaf-fried. One of the Nitida has a few fresh leaves but also lots of dried ones. Phil in Shelton says they really respond to acid soil so maybe it is a ph thing here, but I don't monitor that.

My pitt white {potted} did fine in full shade. When I moved the pot to a half shade area in fall it looked really bad. I have it know in the garage and is recovering. I wouldn't plant it out in the ground. I am going to keep it as a potted bamboo. My chus gig I had in a pot and repotted it into a 25gal pot. It had 1 culm 10ft and about 1/2inch and a few smaller culms.I also have this in the garage. Next spring I will plant it out and see what happens. The same with my Tham tess and Tham crass. The Tham tess has a 12ft culm and a few smaller culms and the Tham crass Merlyn is still shooting in the garage now. I want to build up the rhizome system as much as possible before they get put into the ground. If I kill a plant one, I will try one more time. After that, its on the do not plant list....
I forgot to add, my Fargesia robusta actually has some leaf kill already. We hit 4 F degrees here a week ago. Normally I wrap burlap around it the entire winter due to it's early shooting and additional late shoots not hardening off in the fall. We got really cold earlier in the season this year.
My nitida and nymphenburg leaves are fine also rufa. I am hoping my nitida's flowers this winter/spring. The place where I got them originally from had flowered last year and I know it's only time. 5 years I have had the nitida already and it never got any taller just more culms. The robusta doubles each year in culms and the height growth is nice too.I have a few rufa's and one is protected with a teepee filled with water normally to protect tomatoes. The other rufa is in an open exposed site. It will be interesting to see the differences come spring.
