Phyllostachys elegans blooming

This is a new flower of a Phyllostachys elegans that is just starting to bloom. I got this plant from David last fall because I wanted to see a bamboo flower first hand. Very cool.

Hi Bruce,
I collected and planted seeds from the mother last fall, but nothing has grown. It's still cool to watch a bamboo flower, and keep on growing as well. No shoots yet on my plant.

I am going to try some gibberelic acid on some of the seeds to see if that helps. I have tried this on other types of seeds, but I am unimpressed so far.

No shoots yet except the one that it put up right after I got it. There is another flower starting to bloom and the one that I posted the picture of now has the anthers fully deployed and the stigma is just starting to emerge.
