Markj - will Bory get those large 'scaly' branchlets with the white ring? Mine stays too small to ever show that trait, also the sort of downward curl of the leaves strikes me as non-Bory like. If the culms would have been solid green, would you still have thought a Nigra form?

I found a good photo of the white ring around Bory on the Bamboo Garden web site. Notice the differences in the various types of blotchy black bamboos that they have on this page as well:

Hi Brad- it's an interesting one alright
Probably need a good couple of years in the ground to have a proper Id guess.
Took a couple of pics here-
The first three are Boryana the last is Punctata, the markings on boryana are very smooth almost like spots whilst the punctata has more dot like markings and this looks more like a match in the ID pics.

Bamboo...Please note... This plant is seriously addictive and you may lose interest in other, less rewarding plants!
