what can i expect come spring?
one month ago i transplanted 3 large bam. root balls 24'' or so. 2 of the plants have the culms and 45'ft up to the canopy one has the root ball and the culm cut off at 6'' inches up so no canopy or leaves. i lieve in eastern north carolina. growing zone 8.marine type weather close to atlantic ocean.the type of bam. was reported to be a type of timber bam. from viet nam from a 35yr. old grove near my new grove. the largest are 3 to maybe 4 inches in diameter. what may i expect come spring? do i get copies from the 2 45'ft "trees"? and shorter copies from the 6"inch clum and root ball. any ideas? or experence in the matter? any help would would be nice. later pure light!

I generally expect canes the following spring from new field divisions to be about 25% the size of the canes in the original division, depending upon when they were dug. If you dug them in say February, I would greatly upsize that estimate.

I'm guessing you either have P aurera, or P Nigra(henon). If you transplanted these culms only 1 month ago with the tops cut off and 2ft size rootballs, I think you might get 4-6shoots off of each if you water them well that reach around 8ft.
Its just my estimate since there are too many variables such as the age of the culms, # of viable buds, amount of rhizome/roots with the division, climate and the care afterwards.

It doesn't matter what you expect - the bamboo will do what it wants to do! Every time I think I have this stuff even slightly figured out, it goes and surprises me.
