Flo's Clam Shack

Post by crazy4diesels »

Does anyone know what kind of Bamboo is growing at Flo's Clam Shack in Newport RI? It seems to be doing pretty well. It's a good sized grove around 15 ft by 60 ft, split by a walkway... 15 to 20 ft tall culms. Thank You - John

Was back there with the camera yesterday (I don't usually bring the camera... too busy riding the waves :D ) . I don't see any obvious barriers (except for the foundation of Flo's) to contain the boo. The grass in front of the grove is kept cut very well so maybe that's good enough. The grove is cut down into a hedge as it heads to the front of Flo's and continues on to the sidewalk where it is stopped by the pavement. As you wait in line to place your order you work your way through the length of the grove on a boardwalk. The boo provides good shade for the people in line as it sways overhead in the ocean breeze. This grove is what prompted me to investigate growing boo in Mass. Before seeing it I assumed boo was tropical only - since then I've been afflicted. -John

Trying to upload a photo - hope it works...
