Ugly new shoots...

RE: Ugly new shoots...
There have been reports of a stray rhizome from the U.K. crossing the Atlantic.
The rhizome apparently went down to a depth of 750meters and surfaced on the East coast here in the U.S. Also, it was sharkproof. Truly a remarkable bamboo.

Yes, my B. fargesii is toasted beyond all recognition. I need one of those drown quingchengshanensis rats too.

Unless, I was looking at the wrong plant when Jos pointed his Bash Quing out, I was rather smitten with it, as I was based a photo I had seen and have since been trying to wrest Bill's away from him.
I think the asian flora site has a photo but I'm not sure that was the shot that captured my heart, I'll double check.

Spelled qingchengshanensis
Presumably after a Chinese place called Qingcheng mountain (shan being mountain). Can't tell for sure, because the Chinese have a different name for it, which you'd like as it shortens it from 18 letters to 3--it's simply Bao Bamboo (bao zhuzi 饱竹子).
