Rhizome pruning made easier

Post by tallgrass »

Some of my groves are getting too big to Rhizome prune by hand, so I made this "knife" blade for my tractor. The steel is AR500, which is very strong and not prone to bend when I turn a corner. It's a half inch thick and 5 inches wide and goes down just over 13 inches. The first one I made was out of 3/8 mild steel and bent the first time I used it. If the Rhizome is well rooted it cuts it clean, otherwise it pulls the end up to the surface and I can just snip it off. It's a real work saver and helps me contain the groves easily and as often as I want.

I want something like that in a pushable machine appropriate for suburban gardens.

Great Idea! I hope someday to have enough bamboo to need something like that. Was planning on using a single tooth sub-soiler but your system of having it offset to the side is much better. I also plan to use this thing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8xh_vYlWT0

You just need tougher soil, so the bamboo can't spread as much! Saves time AND fuel money! :-)
