New bamboo: Arundinaria gigantea

Post by Alan_L »

I finally got one, and planted it last weekend:

It came from southern Missouri (twenty years ago) and if anybody is keeping track of where different A. gigantea plants are coming from, I can find out the exact location.

More info about the project here:

Alan, that's a great looking gigantea! It seems to me that in my area arundinarias tend to look ratty in the wild, but they are quite beautiful when well-watered and fed in the garden!
God Bless,

Matthew

And you killed it already! Just read your blog post and I see you mentioned drought and high temps, I'm curious what has it been like so near the Texas Death High?

I don't feel right complaining when they've had it much worse than us, but like in the winter when we got the edge of those arctic air masses, we've been getting the edge of the heatwaves too. Last week we had 4 record high days in a row (around 100F each day) and like much of the midwest (and Texas) we haven't had rain for weeks. Yesterday was low 80's for a high, which felt chilly. Today even nicer in the mid-70s.

Even though my yard is large by suburban standards, it's small enough that I can still reach everything with a reasonable amount of hose, so most things have been getting water, at least once in a while. Watering every day gets old really fast though, as many forum members already know.
