Maybe they are talking about pruning the rhizomes that go over the barrier..easy snip snip.

Yeah, snipping the ones that go over the barrier would be easy.

But, in at least one of the conversations, folks were talking about barrier failures--either through punctures or from the rhizomes going underneath. It was in that context that a couple of people commented that barriers should be called deflectors and that pruning is vital even with a barrier. Since, I don't think you'd want to deflect the rhizomes underneath the barrier, I assumed that the pruning must someone prevent the rhizomes from going down. That's why I wondered how pruning would do that. The ones that escape over the top of the barrier weren't the ones that folks were worried about.

jhndrx said it well. Do you see a open trench next to any of the boo installations I have posted? Look at "commercial installations" post. You probably won't have a break through if the barrier thick enough. 80 mill or thicker is best.

It will probably be OK. If some barrier fails in several years you can deal with it. I never did get any boo planted w my computer.
