You are right that this will become a problem less quickly with a clumper. However, the point at which the rootball has become too big to allow you to extract your bamboo is hard to judge from what is going on aboveground. The first time I tried a pot extraction, I thought I would be able to get a root saw down and sever the connections so I could extract a division from the center...it doesn't work.

In any case, good luck, and post back when you try to re-pot it...maybe you will have better luck than my several failed attempts. And let me know if you need to borrow a hammer.

No upsize. Still just a small clump. Leaves have a brighter blue / green than those of Fargesia plants.

Have logged in 7 times and when I click Board Index I am asked to sign in. Something is gravely wrong. Rats I see after many attempts this is in the Thamnocalamus and not the Fargesia RIP thread where it should be.

Meanwhile I haven't seen nitida roll its leaves here for years. So long ago I can only guess it was during a warm day at noon during a very dry stretch. Never have seen it roll at night though.

Found 3 seedlings in the midst of those dug rhizomes and potted them up bareroot the same night. They did roll so covered them in cloches and all three look fine, now I will have to wean them off the cloches in a week or so as long as it doesn't get hot. Still more of them in the peat wall and various pots of other plants in the yard.

johnw - 19c and dense fog at 23:39. High today 22c & overcast with a bit of sun.
