I was at the community college in the Annapolis Valley today to check out the P. arcanas. We noticed plenty of new rhizomes with roots nicely formed. Some rhizomes were dolphining under the curb and my friend who planted them was a bit alarmed but glad he was retiring before they surface in the new roadway!
A few pix. Pretty green after the heat and drought summer long down there, also frshly mulched. If they had had moisture in July and August they would have been a lot bigger. They had just planted another huge bed surrounded by asphalt - P. viridi-striata (about 30-40 plants) and a half dozen Indocalamus latifolius 'Hopei'. They were having one of their 4 annual plant sales today - by coincidence, lots of bamboos being propagated for the spring or summer sale - Psuedosasa japonica, P. aureosulcata Alata and P. arcanas in 1 & 2 gallons.
Got 2x 5ft Musa ensete 'Maurellii' and 2 x 3ft M. 'ventricosa Rojo', Cupressus arizonica 'Blue Ice' and Acer mono ssp. truncatum
