Help bamboo dying
I planted 14 golden bamboos outside 2 years ago. I live in Seattle and last year we had a cold winter and snow fall. The bamboo is planted in the ground in a hedge style. The last few plants have been looking bad since winter and one has completely died off. The area that has died off has two large maples right next to it and I wonder if this is the problem. The leaves are drying up and curling but some new shoots are there. I haven't been watering but we just got some good rain here. I checked the soil and it is ph 6 and wet. Please see photos. In the summer I fertilized with some high nitrogen lawn fert.

Aurea is very tough .
Don't give up on it, wait until the next shooting season before worrying to much.

Re: Help bamboo dying
Maples can be hard to grow anything under, as they have dense, aggressive and shallow roots. to help w that you might mound some compost around bamboos. I would recommend a slow release organic fertilizer rather than high N, especially at first when plants are small. Those boos on the right look kind of fried, any chance you neighbor is one of the biased ones and has put chemicals on them?

I grow a lot of aurea here in seattle. the ones that are in the shade have more leaves that look like that, but just wait for the new growth to rise up into the sun & you'll forget there was ever a problem!
